Ichiro - Erin Corday w/ Joel Litwin
Early pre-production for Ichiro. As Joel notes, there have been a lot of changes in the team line-up since I wrote the song. Beautiful Ichiro endures, along with one Jose and Adrian, though now I think it's down to two. Joel is playing mbira and being a good sport about the time signature changes both intentional and otherwise. The rhythmic idea is based on the beautiful timing of the pauses between the sports announcer's ubiquitous lines. I made Joel show me the movements of the pitcher and the batter. The mbira is in 6, the constant ebb and flow of the crowd, might want to add some crowd noise as a loop. The guitar part is inspired by the variable rhythm of the game and by guitarists like Ray Phiri and early Kante Manfila though much simpler of course. I lucked out with the abundance of J and CH sounds in the names of the players who were on the roster during that thrilling season.
